Nutrition
The easiest
way to ensure that you are getting enough nutrients is to follow the Canada
Food Guide. It divides everything we eat into four groups: milk, meat
and poultry, breads, fruits and vegetables. The guide recommends that
you eat from each group at every meal. If you do this, you will be eating
a nutritious diet.
To train
effectively, you should always eat some food before training. Some suggestions
include: fruit (bananas, apples, oranges, pears, raisins, fruit cups,
fruit juices), vegetables (carrots, celery), grains (bagels, toast, peanut
butter and jelly sandwiches), cheese, dried cereal, nuts, and seeds. Drink
lots of water. Bring a non-breakable container containing water with you
to practice and drink regularly.
Avoid chips,
cookies, chocolate bars and pop. Items such as these contain empty calories
and will do little to help fuel the body.
